Y6 Isle of Wight

A week-long visit to the Isle of Wight takes place annually in June.  This residential is an opportunity for Y6 to spend quality time with each other before the move to secondary school. The residential covers many aspects of the National Curriculum, providing the children with some context and first-hand experience of several geographical, historical and scientific areas of learning. A huge range of visits and attractions across the island are planned and at the end of each day, an exclusive hotel, most recently St. Michael's in Sandown, welcomes the group with its delicious food and home comforts. The itinerary begins with a stop at Avebury Henge on the way to Southampton, before crossing the Solent by ferry. On arrival in the Isle of Wight, visits to Godshill Model Village, Seaview Wildlife Encounter, Glory Glass Art, Osborne House, Dinosaur Isle, a fossil hunt at St. Catherine's Point, Carisbrooke Castle, Shanklin Chine, the Rock Shop, Tennyson Down, The Needles, a pleasure cruise from Alum Bay to Yarmouth, Monkey Haven and oodles of fun on the beach keep everyone completely absorbed. Before returning home, there is a visit to the RNLI at Bembridge which ensures that the Isle of Wight's northern, southern, western and eastern extremities have all been visited, whilst also providing the opportunity for funds raised by our pupils for one of our chosen charities to be presented.
